More season announcements

russiaA few more season announcements have come in.  Off Centre Music Salon have moved to Trinity St. Paul’s.  They have announced two concerts.  This coming Sunday 27th there’s Russia Cast Adrift featuring mezzo soprano Emilia Boteva, tenor Ernesto Ramirez, baritone Geoffrey Sirett, and soprano Nathalie Paulin singing Sviridov’s song cycle Russia Cast Adrift plus works by Rachmaninoff, Gavrillin and Scriabin.  Then on Sunday, November 1st there’s a programme called The Geometry of Love featuring Joni Henson, soprano and Peter McGillivray, baritone with Mark Skazinetsky, violin, Igor Gefter, cello and pianists Inna Perkis and Boris Zarankin performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, Mahler, Strauss and Wagner.

The season continues in the new year with The Cocktail Epoque on Sunday 21st February, 2016. A mixture of classical and less classical material from the twenties will be performed by singers Allison Angelo – soprano, Krisztina Szabo – mezzo soprano and James Westman – baritone with Joseph Macerollo – accordion and Jimmy Roberts – piano. The final concert is a performance of Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin on Sunday April 10th, 2016. The performers will be Jeffrey Ollarsaba – tenor, Ilana Zarankin – soprano with
Boris Zarankin and Inna Perkis at the piano. Further details, tickets etc can be found here.

On the 29th of this month Opera 5 have a fundraiser at The Extension Room.  It sounds like it will be as fun and crazy as previous years.  Opera 500 is described as a drop-in cocktail style party hosted by Toronto-based drag queen Pearle Harbour.   The evening will pit eight performers against each other. Guests will bid on their favourite singers to assist them on their dash to the finish line! As they reach various fundraising goals, each singer will perform a vocal feat such as singing a randomly selected scale in a randomly selected emotion, showing off their vocal range with their most gratuitous cadenza, “opera-fying” a pop song, and ending with their favourite party piece. The cast includes baritone Keith Lam, soprano Caitlin Wood, mezzo-soprano Beste Kalender and tenor Kevin Meyers. There will be prizes and stuff as well.  I wish I could go.

Tickets for the Canadian Art Song Project’s opening recital of the season are now on sale.  It’s on November 7th at The Extension Room.  The concert will feature the premiere of a new cycle by Erik Ross (The Living Spectacle) along with works by Brian Harman (Sewing the Earthworm), Richard Strauss (Ophelia Lieder) and American Libby Larsen (Try Me Good King). Artists for this concert include fabulous sopranos Ambur Braid and Carla Huhtanen, pianist Steven Philcox and equally fabulous dancer Jennifer Nichols.  Tickets here.
