russian-salonTomorrow (Sunday) afternoon Off Centre Music Salon opens its 2016/17 season at 3pm at Trinity St. Paul’s.  It’s an all Russian show called Four Seasons or Mother Russia.  It will feature songs by Prokofiev’s The Ugly Duckling and songs byTchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff, as well as Arensky’s Piano Trio in D minor (op. 32).  The highlight is the Toronto premiere of Valery Gavrilin’s song cycle Seasons inspired by Northern Russian folklore and chanting traditions.  Performers include cellist Igor Gefter, pianists Inna Perkis and Boris Zarankin, violinist Mark Skazinetky and singers Joni Henson and Ryan Harper.

Monday evening sees the Krehm Memorial Concert in aid of St. Mike’s ICU.  Details here.  Wednesday sees the opening of Tapestry’s Naomi’s Road.  Details and ticket info are here. It runs until the 20th.  Also on Wednesday Anthony Cleever and Rachel Andrist have a free lunchtime (12.15pm) recital at the Arts and Letters Club.  On Thursday, Toronto Masque Theatre have the first of three performances of Daphne and Apollo at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse.  Details here.

Friday is another busy day with the first of two performances of Viardot’s Cendrillon at the Royal Conservatory.  Also that evening CASP have a concert of music by Healey Willan’s at Trinity St. Paul’s.  Details and tickets here.  Finally also on Friday at Harbourfront, but with a matinee and evening performance on Saturday too, there’s a bit of an oddball; Balancing on the Edge.  This show combines new contemporary music, circus art, dance, bicycles and much more.  There’s a preview video here.
